Jamie: scenes from a 2026 dance short

Jamie brings contemporary dance into a story told through social scenes and private exchanges. Directed and choreographed by Vienna Hank and Kensley Iwamoto, the 2026 short combines their lead performances with cinematography and colour by James Alton. These three frames show the shift from a warm group scene to a blue night exterior and a close performance shot.

A group in one shot

In the living-room scene, several people share the composition. Their faces, hands and bodies overlap, while the table, chairs and bright curtains show the room around them. The shot includes the conversation as a group rather than isolating one person from it.

The pink and warm tones extend across skin, fabric and the background. That shared colour gives the scene a different appearance from the blue exterior below.

Two colours, two spaces

At the house party, the exterior is blue while the window opens onto an orange-red interior. People occupy both spaces: some cross the foreground outside, while others remain visible through the glass.

The window forms a smaller composition inside the wide shot. Its brighter colour draws attention to the people indoors even though the foreground figures are larger. Colour, distance and the window frame all separate the two groups.

Closer to the performance

The close-up reduces the scene to a face, a glance and a small amount of background. Cool blue light continues across the image, but the change in shot scale makes the expression the main detail.

Seen beside the wider frames, it shows how much the relationship between a performer and the surroundings changes with framing. The group shot includes several gestures at once; the close-up gives one expression more space.
